AFAD is a women-led, local non-governmental organization headquartered in Kurigram, Bangladesh, with over 25 years of experience working with disaster-prone and marginalized communities. As the lead implementing partner, AFAD provides strategic oversight, technical guidance, and overall financial and administrative management. The organization has strong expertise in gender equality, disaster risk reduction (DRR), climate change adaptation, livelihoods, and WASH, with a long-standing presence in Kurigram and extended operations in Jamalpur and Satkhira through consortium partnerships. BINDU Nari Unnayan Sangathan (BINDU) Based in Satkhira, BINDU is a youth-led feminist organization formed by young women from marginalized backgrounds. BINDU brings strong grassroots engagement and thematic expertise in women’s rights, youth leadership, climate justice, disaster risk reduction, and humanitarian response. As an implementing partner, BINDU contributes local knowledge, community trust, and inclusive approaches to ensure gender-responsive and youth-centered implementation in climate-vulnerable coastal areas. ASDDW (Association for Socioeconomic Development of the Distressed Women) ASDDW is a community-based organization operating in Khulna, with a strong focus on empowering women and girls from Dalit, indigenous, and other marginalized communities. The organization has extensive experience in DRR, climate change adaptation, emergency response, and climate-smart agriculture. ASDDW brings localized technical expertise, innovative water and agriculture solutions, and deep community networks to support effective, context-specific implementation. .Bangladesh is highly vulnerable to climate-induced disasters, including floods, cyclones, river erosion, and embankment failures. These hazards have severe and recurring impacts on embankment-adjacent communities, particularly in the districts of Kurigram, Khulna, and Satkhira. Women, girls, persons with disabilities, Dalit, and other marginalized groups are disproportionately affected due to social, economic, and structural inequalities that limit their access to resources, information, and decision-making processes. The project aims to strengthen gender-responsive disaster risk reduction (DRR) by promoting women’s leadership through Embankment Protection Groups (EPGs), enhancing community-level disaster preparedness, and supporting evidence-based advocacy for inclusive and resilient embankment management.
